Wake Concludes Successful 2009 Combined Campaign

Wake Employees came together to provide for those in need, while breaking two County records for participation and funds pledged. A total of 578 pledge cards were collected, totaling $91,098.32. This is 132 more cards collected and nearly $1,000 more in funds than in 2007, the previous record year.

Funds raised for the Combined Campaign will be used to benefit a number of non-profit organizations throughout Wake County.

Holiday Closing Schedule

Wake County employees are reminded that County offices will be closed on the following dates:

Thursday, December 24, 2009
Friday, December 25, 2009
January 1, 2010

Some County facilities, such as parks and libraries, will close early or remain open to the public. For the complete list of closings, see the 2009 Holiday Closing Schedule.

National Arts Program Exhibit Opens December 3

The 7th annual National Arts Program exhibit, featuring artwork by Wake County and city of Raleigh employees and their families, will be on display beginning Thursday, December 3, 2009, until Monday, January 11, 2010, in the Miriam Preston Block Art Gallery at the Avery C. Upchurch Government Complex, 222 W. Hargett St., Raleigh. An opening-day reception featuring live music will be held on Thursday, December 3, 2009, from 5 to 7 p.m. 

The National Arts Program is designed to give all artists, at every level of skill, an opportunity to exhibit their work in a professional manner. Be sure to visit and view the works.

Historic Oak View to Host Annual Winter Event December 5

Employees and their families are invited to attend Sleigh Rides and Cider: A Winter Night at Oak View, the annual winter event at Historic Oak View County Park, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 5, 2009. Historic Oak View Park is located at 4028 Carya Drive, Raleigh. The event is also open to the public.

Decorations and displays showing Christmas at the Oak View Farm: How they celebrated from 1850 to 1950 can be viewed in the Main House. Visitors can ride in a horse-drawn carriage through Oak View’s Pecan Grove, listen to holiday music and stories in the 1855 farmhouse, drink hot apple cider near the 1825 Plank Kitchen and visit with Old St. Nick. 

Donations of new or clean, gently-used clothing; toiletries or canned goods can be placed under the Warming Tree (located in the Farm History Center) and will be given to InterAct Shelter in Raleigh.

HR Policy: Sexual Harassment

Wake County is committed to maintaining a respectful and dignified workplace for all employees.  Sexual harassment interferes with, and needlessly undermines, a positive work environment. 

Each of us is responsible for respecting the rights of our co-workers, and for creating an atmosphere free of discrimination and harassment. Therefore, Wake County policy expressly prohibits sexual harassment in any form. Retaliation of any kind against an employee for filing a complaint under this policy, or for assisting in an investigation, is prohibited, and is grounds for disciplinary action up to and including dismissal. Human Resources will be responsible for conducting investigations of sexual harassment complaints.
