Wake Commissioners Adopt $920-million FY '08 Budget
The Wake County Board of Commissioners on Monday, June 18, adopted a $920-million budget for fiscal year 2007-08 that emphasizes education, mental health and public safety programs, and would raise taxes 4.4 cents.
The adopted budget exceeds County Manager David Cooke's recommended budget by $6 million, due to changes made by the Board of Commissioners to support an additional 0.8-cent property tax increase for the school system.

Supportive Employment Program Awarded Three-Year Accreditation
Wake County Human Services' Supportive Employment Program has earned a three-year international accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). The three-year accreditation, which extends through May 2010, is the highest level of accreditation that can be awarded to an organization.

More than 100 Wake County employees helped save lives during the Wake County/American Red Cross semiannual blood drive June 20 and 21, 2007. In fact, 112 employees donated blood, exceeding the goal of 100.

Adventure Week Provides Valuable Outdoor Experience for Kids
Wake County park staff gave 15 children ages 9-12 a week-long adventure June 18-22, 2007. They learned outdoor skills, enjoyed nature and discovered the unique qualities of each of Wake County's Parks during Adventure Week Day Camp.
