507 Shared Leave Program

Any benefits-eligible employee may participate as a donor or as a recipient.

Donation of leave is strictly voluntary.

An employee may not directly or indirectly intimidate, threaten, coerce, or in any way pressure any other employee for the purpose of interfering with any option which such employee may have with respect to donating or receiving leave under this program. Any conduct of this nature constitutes grounds for disciplinary action up to and including dismissal. Supervisors in particular should be mindful of perceptions and are expected to exercise care and good judgment especially in accepting leave from a subordinate or from someone over whom he or she has influence with regard to personnel matters.

An employee may donate annual leave to a coworker. Leave not yet earned cannot be donated.

Transferred leave will be placed into receiving employee’s sick leave bank and will henceforth be governed by the existing sick leave policy. (The policy allows sick leave to be used for your own illness or that of your spouse, child, or parent.)

Donations must be made in eight hour increments; that is 8 hours, 16 hours, 24 hours and so on.

A donor may transfer leave one time per pay per recipient.

Leave will be transferred to the recipient effective the beginning of the pay period following receipt of the Shared Leave Donation Form by the Personnel Department (WCOB).

An employee donating cannot receive remuneration for the leave donated and donated leave will not be returned.

Wake County Government is in no way responsible for any future need of leave that was donated.
