402 Application and Selection

All persons expressing an interest in employment with Wake County will be given an opportunity to apply for vacant positions.

       

Applications

 

All original applications will be maintained in Human Resources.

 

Selection

 

All applications for employment will be processed through Human Resources.  Applicants recruited by other departments will be referred to Human Resources for processing.  An individual’s name will not be added to the County payroll in a permanent, full-time or part-time position until he has been properly processed by Human Resources.

 

Some departments have opted to take part in the Delegation of Applicant Screening program.  Under this program, Human Resources will:

       

continue to place advertisements and be the receiving point for applications.
continue to screen the applications to exclude those who do not meet the minimum education and experience requirements.
refer all applicants who meet the minimum to the hiring department.

 

The hiring department will:

 

screen according to criteria established on the Notice of Staff Vacancy submitted to Human Resources to initiate recruitment and group/rank all applicants who are referred accordingly.
 
provide documentation of the grouping decisions for all applicants who are referred and for selection decisions.

 

All persons who have applied for employment shall be selected on a competitive basis.  All applicants must meet the minimum training, education and experience, certification or licensure requirements established for the position.  Any internal applicant who meets the minimum education and experience requirements for a position will be referred to the hiring department.  In addition, applicants must meet other minimum standards as to character, aptitude, ability to meet the public, and physical condition as may be required by the position.
